Buying a Property in Spain

If you are thinking of buying a property on the Costa Blanca it pays to do as much research as you can before your visit. There should be three important criteria to determine at first.

  1. Location, the preferred areas you would like to purchase in.
  2. Types of property that you are interested in.
  3. Price range for your purchase.

You may not always be able to find your dream property in the location of your choice and at the price that you can afford. This being the case you have a choice of compromises; if you have set your heart on a certain area you can downsize on the property. Alternately you will be able to find the same style of house in an area where prices are cheaper.

By doing this you can avoid a lot of travelling around once you are here which can be disorientating as well as tiring. The ideal visit to look for a permanent or holiday home should ideally be of 7 - 10 days and should involve looking at a dozen or so properties of your preferred choice in the locations that you want. You will also have to take into consideration any amenities that you need close at hand, we will be adding this info to our website over the coming months to help you; but you can contact us direct for any specific questions that you may have.

On our website you will find a property questionnaire that you can fill in and send to us. We will then send you details of any properties that match your requirements, and if your visit is soon we can arrange for you to be shown around the area and the properties that you shortlist. We believe that this gives you the best chance of finding your dream home in the sun and stops the need for looking at property that would not suit you. This is also done on a one to one basis; you will not be bussed around with other couples whose property requirements may be entirely different from yours.

Just fill in the property request form with as much information as you can and we will start searching for your new home and email you details of the ones that suit your needs. Resales often sell quickly so it is best to do a preliminary search and then make final arrangements to view the properties available 7 - 10 days before your visit.

Some companies are still pricing houses with an exchange rate of £1 = €1.59, giving you a nasty shock when you learn the true cost. You also need to budget for an extra 10% - 12% for costs and taxes on your intended purchase. Browse through and make a note of any that catch your eye, we have property on sale from a number of estate agents and builders throughout the area. Just contact us and we can arrange for you to see any of the properties with the various agents when you visit, and don't forget we can arrange accommodation for you while you are here should you need it.

We also would suggest that you employ the services of an English speaking Spanish solicitor. Spanish law is full of pitfalls for the unsuspecting and your solicitor will be able to advise on the important and not so important aspects of house buying in Spain.
